The Essential Life Crew, would like to dedicate this small space to the memory of a young man, who was taken from us too soon. He was big on “Life”, even though he was small in stature. On May 2, 2011 Brent Young passed away suddenly, while living his authentic life. You see Brent was special. We are all special. Brent spent every waking minute with the people he loved the best, doing the things he loved the best. Brent survived a double bypass at the ripe old age of 36. It was a hard pill for him to swallow, but being Brent; after getting over the initial healing soon after began training hard and getting re acquainted with his now healthy body. He was busy getting ready for the upcoming ice climbing and skiing season. He could hardly wait! In one of the many conversations that we had about “life stuff” he told me that when you feel like a bag of crap every day, it becomes normal. Once he was well, he couldn’t believe how for so long he thought that feeling like crap was normal. Physically, emotionally, spiritually, crappy was his normal. He said he had felt stuck in a quagmire. Tired most all of the time, working all of the time, no energy for anything extra and getting stressed out was his life. He hid it very well. Where had Sizzlelean gone? He was back! and he said he was never looking back. Brent taught us, and continues to teach us, that living life to the fullest, and experiencing all life has to offer is what is important. We are all tied to our day to day lives. That is a very important part of life. Working long hours, living in the box we created. We need to put windows in our box, and remember what it is like to grow in mind and body and be at peace with ourselves and the world around us. We need to remember how to play and learn. We need to re-learn about passion, kindness, love, happiness and forgiveness. We need to re-kindle our friendships with people, most importantly re-kindle our relationships with our family. Brent was given a second chance at life and he didn’t squander it, not one second of it. Brent lives on in all of those he touched and loved and through him, his humor, his style, his unwavering spirit. Courage, determination, tenacity, risk, we give you - Essential Life Series. Thanks for you B-rent! Shakakan Buddy!
