DIY: Healthy Eats & Happy Trails
Nutritious and delicious fuel is one of the most important elements of any backcountry hiking adventure!
During this weekend workshop you will learn how to make your own healthy, delicious, and heartful dehydrated backcountry meals. Monique 'Mo' Vigne will share her years of experience learned through her backcountry catering company, Mo's Mountain Cuisine. We will learn everything that goes into preparing food for a backcountry hiking adventure or multi-day backpacking trip. Starting with the basics of menu planning and caloric requirements, we will progress to learn all about dehydration details, and how to best package meals. It will also be a hands on workshop where we will work together in Sheiling Mountain Lodge's kitchen to create a variety of our own delectable delights. And the best part is you will know each and every one of the ingredients that go into your food, instead of all those non-pronounceables in store bought versions. In addition to creating and sampling dehydrated meals we will learn about some of the wild edibles in the Boreal Forest of the David Thompson Corridor, as well as the basics of backcountry kitchen set-up and gear, including backcountry stoves. We are planing for great weather and are super excited to get outside for a portion of each day to share some of our most favorite local areas with you! Ultimately we will take the delicious meals we made for a hike with us and, and most importantly, SAMPLE them!! You will also get to bring home one dehydrated and packaged meal with you for your next backcountry adventure! |
