Come spend the weekend learning and "playing in the mud" in this hands-on workshop. We will learn how to build an outdoor wood-fired oven using natural building materials, including clay, sand, straw, and bricks.
Topics covered in the workshop include how to: • Create a base for an oven • Identify suitable soil for making cob • Lay firebricks • Build a form • Mix cob and clay slip for a super efficient oven • Build cob layers for the oven • Construct a strong and beautiful brick archway • Build the perfect door • Use wood efficiently • Bake perfect bread, pizza, and other goodies.
Cooking in an earthen oven connects us with the elements and our food in a profound way. Cob Ovens also create an exceptional outdoor environment for baking artisan breads and pizza, as well as stews, roasts, or just hanging out and keeping warm.
By the end of this workshop you will have connected with some great people and you’ll walk away with the skills necessary to build your very own oven!
The Essential Life Crew (and all those who have had the pleasure of tasting Cheri's homemade bread & buns) are MEGA-PUMPED to be working with DirtCraft.ca on this project. There is so much Goodness (and all calories made with Love are free!) that gets baked at Sheiling Mountain Lodge: we're so excited! AND to tie it all together Cheri has offered to put on a Bread Baking 104.5 workshop in November once she has mastered baking "Home-Made with Love Cob Oven Bread"!!!
